Position Overview:

Individual is responsible for coordinating all activities associated with sending production (peak shaving short term or long term) to outside suppliers. This encompasses quoting, planning and inventory functions for these components. The Subcontract Buyer is the primary contact between subcontract suppliers and The Knapheide Manufacturing Company establishing priorities and production needs to meet our requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review internal work load with PIC Planners and Manufacturing for subcontracting requirements. "Peak Shaving"
  • Review new requirements with PIC Planners for potential work at subcontractors.
  • Responsible for inventory management of material at subcontractor including initiating debits for scrap generated and assisting with cycle counts of raw material at their facility.
  • Coordinate material to be drop shipped to subcontract supplier and any other requirements such as tooling or fixtures.
  • Ability to evaluate Knapheide prints in conjunction with outside supplier capability and source appropriately.
  • Plan and Maintain Subcontract shop orders.
  • Communicate engineering changes, prints, electronic files, paint chips, to supplier affecting customer requirements.
  • Provide management reports on a monthly and/or quarterly basis detailing the cost per supplier (as requested)
  • Maintain the data for capable subcontract suppliers and their capabilities. Available for new subcontract or Product Development needs.
  • Expedite customer requests

Position Requirements:

Individual Requirements or highly recommended:

  • Knapheide experience in purchasing or planning
  • Solid understanding of Knapheide's MRP system (purchasing and planning)
  • Ability to be self-guided with project and supplier relations
  • Strong collaboration background and skills
  • Materials, Fabrication and Machining knowledge (highly desirable)
  • 4 year college degree or 10+ years of progressive manufacturing experience (preferred)

Physical/Mental Requirements Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of the Position:

Normal standing, bending, walking, lifting for an office environment. Ability to communicate at all levels. Ability to function in a dynamic environment.
